Baked Sweet Potato Fries

I love sweet potato fries

Especially when they’re homemade! Honestly, I think these are better than what you’ll get at a restaurant and not just because they’re a healthier option. The secret that makes these crispy and delicious is giving them an ice bath first. It sounds crazy I know but it’s an extra step worth taking! Keep reading for the easy how to.

This recipe serves around 4-6 depending on how many you eat :)

You can size the ingredients up/down depending on how many you’re looking to serve. We love these as leftovers too so the more the better in my opinion!

Ingredients:

  • 2lbs sweet potatoes sliced into a small fry shape

  • 1/4 cup avocado oil

  • 1/2 tsp paprika

  • 1/2 tsp cumin

  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

  • fresh cracked pepper

Method:

  • preheat your oven to 400 degrees

  • slice potatoes and place them in a large bowl. Cover them with ice and then water to make an ice bath. Soak the fries for 15 minutes or longer. This is the secret to making them brown and crispy!

  • pull the potatoes out of the ice bath and towel dry them

  • arrange them on a baking sheet and cover with avocado oil, spices and toss well

  • once they’re evenly covered, neatly organize them so they’re spaced out the same from each other. This will help them brown and not steam. You might need 2 pans. This might seem like an anal detail but I promise it’s worth it!

  • bake on the lowest rack for 20 minutes and then flip them, maintaining their arrangement if possible so they get evenly cooked.

  • bake for another 20 mintues on the lower rack for crispier fries or on the middle rack for softer/less crispy fries.

  • take them out, let them cool for about 5 minutes and enjoy!

  • store leftovers in an airtight container for 2-3 days, or until eaten!

I hope you enjoy these as much we do! We make them almost weekly and always make some for leftovers to throw into a salad the next day, or as an easy side for the next night’s dinner - you just reheat in an oven.
