How I Style My Curly Hair
The products I love and how I use them:
I love Act and Acre Shampoo and Conditioner. It’s a clean brand that isn’t full of junk ingredients and works great! I use their dry shampoo between washings to help my hair last longer and stay fresh.
About once a week I use Goop’s Scalp Scrub. It works wonders for my hair leaving it smooth, clean, and guarantees me a great hair day. I bought this on accident a few years ago and decided to try it and have never looked back.
I use a wide tooth comb in the shower to detangle my hair (I get horrible tangles thanks to my curls). I leave it soaking wet and place a micro fiber towel on my shoulders as I get out so my hair doesn’t drip all over me (hate that feeling!). Keeping your hair very wet is key to applying my styling products.
I start with Devachan Ultra Defining Gel and use about the size of a nickel (more if you have longer hair - I have a “lob”) and scrunch it in my soaking wet hair. I then use 3 pumps of the Devachan Frizz Fighting Volumizing Foam for volume and scrunch it in as well. After the product I use the micro fiber towel to dry and scrunch more and get as much moisture out as I can. According to my old stylist at Devachan, using a microfiber towel or cotton t-shirt will keep your hair from getting frizzy compared to using a normal bath towel.
I let it air dry for about 10-15 minutes if I can and do other things like apply my makeup, get dressed, brush my teeth, etc. Then I use a diffuser on my blowdryer. I tip my head upside down and take turns throughout different sections of my hair.
I usually take a few minute break to let it settle and air dry a bit more. Then finish off with a few more minutes under the diffuser and am done. I don’t use a mirror at all because curly hair has it’s own vibe and there’s not much controlling at least my hair in how it goes that day.
