How To Perfectly Poach an Egg

On the weekends,

I typically indulge myself in making a beautiful homemade breakfast. Whereas during the week I opt for quick grab and go muffins with boiled eggs, granola and fruit, etc. One of my favorite things to do is poach eggs. Years ago I learned this technique in a cooking class and have used it ever since. You do not need anything but a pan and some vinegar. Keep reading for the easy how to!

Needed:

  • Small sauce pan

  • Filled about 3/4 of the way with water

  • Good splash of distilled white or apple cider vinegar

  • As many eggs as you’d like to poach

  • Small dish

  • Slotted spoon (if you have)

Method:

  • Place water and vinegar into a small sauce pan and bring to a rolling boil.

  • While you wait for that to happen, crack an egg maintaining the yolk into a small heat proof bowl.

  • Drop the egg into the boiling mixture and quickly repeat with as many eggs as you’d like.

  • Set a timer for 2 minutes and then rinse out the heat proof bowl.

  • Once the timer goes off, stall a bit - like 10-15 seconds more. This, in my opinion, is the perfect amount of time to cook the eggs.

  • Using a slotted spoon, pull one egg at a time, drain as much water out of your spoon as you can and place it back in the small bowl - repeat until all of the eggs are done.

  • Once you’re read to plate your eggs, use the slotted spoon to serve them so you can drain any remaining water. Take your time as they are fragile and you don’t want to break any open!

  • Then enjoy your perfectly cooked eggs!

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do! Enjoying a liesurely breakfast on the weekend is truly one of my favorite things to do.
