June’s Conscious Covet’s

All things summer….

For a while now I have been wanting to do a monthly round up of all kinds of conscious choices I have been making lately. Truly these are ideas, experiences, things, and more that I have vetted and are incorporating into my life daily and weekly. I believe deeply that by making small but mighty choices throughout your day you can see and feel real results, live better and enjoy more! Since we are in June and it is the beginning of summer, that is this month’s theme! Keep reading to see what I’m loving this month…

For When You’re in the Sun

I am so lucky to spend my summer in Montauk at the beach. I live for this time and all that comes with it. This being said, I have very fair skin, have had a skin cancer removed already, and frankly want to age well! Not to mention I have a 3.5 year old boy who is very fair and obviously I want to keep him safe in the sun as well. I’ve been loving these sunscreens and gear for the beach…

Every morning when I get out of the shower I use this. It only has 15 spf but I find I don’t get sunburned typically while at the beach but rather the in between moments in life. Factor in that I am a mom and am more concerned about my son than anything else, I definitely forget to apply sunscreen at the beach. I love this because it gives me a back up for whenever I find myself outside.

Obviously my son Lincoln needs sunscreen all day every day as he is now in summer camp for the remainder of the summer. Mineral sunscreen is the cleanest and safest for him and I love Pipette for his needs. It works (he has yet to be burned yet after his first week of camp!) and that’s what is most important. This has a high EWG rating and I love that.

For When You Want to Stay Cool

No doubt in the summer we are all looking for ways to cool off. Delicious drinks, ice cream, rose and more all help! I love indulging mindfully in these things but like to do it with a clean twist. These last few weeks we have been loving the following.

Home Made Popsicles

My son has been popsicle and ice cream obsessed this summer. And frankly, who isn’t on a hot day? Most of these items are made with way too much sugar and crap ingredients. So, I have been making my own. He happens to love trucks so I ordered these super cute molds and he’s in heaven. The three I’ve made so far and both him and I have loved are:

Watermelon Popsicles Blend about 3 cups watermelon chunk, splash of water, juice of one lime and a pinch of salt. Fill the molds and let them freeze for 24 hours. Drink the rest of the juice!

Chocolate Banana “Nice Cream” Popsicles Blend 2 cups frozen banana chunks with 1 tablespoon dairy free milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1/4 cup cocoa powder and a handful of chocolate chips. (I love Hu Kitchen!). Fill the molds and let them freeze for about 12-24 hours. If you have left over ice cream line a small dish with parchment paper and scoop the rest in for a cup of “nice cream” another time.

Chocolate Coconut Milk Popsicles Blend 1 can of coconut milk (try to find one with out any gums used), 1/2 cup cocoa powder, 1/3 cup maple syrup, and 2 tsp vanilla. Fill your molds and freeze for 4+ hours.

Rose in the summertime is my favorite. It is so light and refreshing - perfect for a hot day. I don’t drink that much but when I do I always try to pick a clean and sustainably made choice. I love this rose by La Spinetta. The grapes are grown organically and are sustainably farmed. Because it’s made in a quality way, it also won’t leave you feeling like crap the next day (which is the main reason I don’t drink often, I always want to feel my best!). I also love the label and always call my wine store asking if they have the “Rhino rose” - the label is a photo of Durer’s Rhinoceros wood carving. I highly recommend checking it out at your local wine store.

Dram sparkling waters are my favorite and frequent go to. They are so delicious, refreshing, and are the perfect no sugar, no calorie, and non alcoholic way to cool off and relax on a hot summer day. I love all their flavors so I can’t recommend just one!

For When You’re Working Out Outside

One of my favorite parts about summer is exercising outside! The sun, fresh air, nature, and more all give me life. This being said, you need to be strategic. Drink enough water, wear sunscreen, cool clothes, etc. See below for my outside workout musts!

If you’ve been following along with me for any amount of time you know I am all about refillable options and ditching plastic. So obviously, an APP water bottle is the choice here! If you want to make your water extra refreshing in the summer try one of these combos with ice to help hydrate, up your vitamin intake and cool you off.

Sliced lemon and mint.

Sliced cucumber and lime.

Sliced ginger and lemon.

Beyond Yoga is beyond my favorite. It is so soft, flattering, comfortable, breathable and more. It’s basically the only thing I wear. Their biker shorts are the perfect length and pair perfect with their tops, a slouchy sweatshirt, etc. I own them in many colors! Check them out below and receive 15% off at check out with this specific link!

I have been using this running belt for years when I go out for my runs. But you don’t have to be a runner to use it. If you’re hiking or going for walks come summer time this is the perfect size for your phone, keys, and a little bit of money. It fits perfect on your hips and stays put.

What I’m Loving Reading and Listening To

I love to read and listen. It’s the best way to expand your mind but simultaneously relax it. This book and this podcast have been just what I’ve needed so far this summer!

This book is so good! It’s a great story on life in NYC during the early 1900’s and also gives such insight to what life was like for women, people of color, the art scene and more. Ironically, I cater waitered the Morgan Library many times in college! So it has had a little extra special feeling to it for me. Regardless, I highly recommend this book as it’s got something for everyone.

This series is amazing and so important. It goes in on all the parts of abortion. From simply saying the word to actually going into clinics that were barely standing because of the pending Roe v. Wade case. I highly recommend listening to this!
