The Quarantine Edit
I recently received a “quarantine idea” email and loved it. I was inspired so I thought I would post about it on my blog too.
The below is my “Quarantine Edit” for passing the time these next few months (aside from the obvious of doing pilates!) while it’s darker longer and cold (at least where I am).
TV shows — We recently watched Queens Gambit on Netflix - we loved it and not to mention it was refreshing to watch something so original. If you’re more into suspense, I highly recommend watching The Sinner on Netflix. Each series is a new story and equally nail biting.
Movies — We're currently watching the movie I'm Your Woman on Amazon Prime which features the actress Rachel Brosnahan from The Mrs. Maisel series and it's very good. I'm planning to download Disney + for my son and watch Soul which I've heard is very good and inspiring. If you’re looking for something that feels socially relevant we watched A Hillbilly Elegy on Netflix with Amy Adams and Glenn Close who were both awesome.
Cocktails — I really only drink wine (except for the occasional summertime margarita - check out my previous blog for a delicious Tumeric Margarita!), and am currently taking the month off drinking to reset some acquired quarantine habits. So I am enjoying drinking Dram Apothecary (femaled owned) CBD sparkling waters and they're so good. I had never tried CBD prior to this and I will say they do help to "relax" a bit without feeling impaired. My sister also sent me Seedlip which are distilled non-alcoholic libations. They're herbally and mimic a good cocktail’s sophisticated flavours.
Food — We got pretty bored with our same old menu and got into a good habit of too much take out. So, I am back on the hunt for new recipes to spice up our recipe rotation. I made these shredded chicken tacos this weekend and they were so good. You use a hand mixer to shred the chicken after baking it and it’s an oddly satisfying activity. I love Siete tortillas as they're grain free and lighter than flour
Book - Sadly, I haven't actually read a book since I was pregnant. But I've gotten on the audio book train and recently listened to Glennon Doyle's Untamed which was very inspiring. Prior to that I downloaded Michael Cohen's book Disloyal which was interesting and timely as I listened to it going into the election.
Podcasts - These are a new favorite for me as they’re a great way to listen and learn about new things. I loved 1619, often check out The NYT The Daily, How I Built This (If you like wine and onion cutting/inspiring stories check out The McBride Sisters - it's awesome and after you're done listening, buy their wine because it's good and you're supporting a Black owned business). I also listened to Nice White Parents which is a very interesting and gives good perspective . Since I am a NY Mom who will be sending a kid to school soon it felt extra relevant for me.
Meditation - my favorite meditation right now is the "Pre Bed Relaxing Meditation" one on Skyting.com
Music - I have been loving the station Sol Rising on Pandora. It’s a mix of ambient and chill music that takes me to Miami.
Games - We have recently gotten into Monopoly and it’s a great way to pass some time let me tell you and not to mention fun!
Outside - our current favorite activity aside from sunset hunting is is flying kites! It’s perfect for these cold windy days out in Montauk.
I hope these ideas give you some inspiration, however am I missing something you love? Drop your ideas in the comments below! And remember, Covid will pass. Until then, stay home, stay healthy and stay positive.
