September’s Conscious Covets

The biggest change I made in September…

Was cutting out all alcohol. After listening to Huberman Lab’s podcast back in August I decided it was time to take a break from drinking. I don’t drink much anyways but aside from being pregnant I hadn’t ever taken a real break from occasionally consuming alcohol. I have committed myself to at least 60 days as Huberman suggests that after not drinking for 2-6 months you can reset your neuro-plasticity. The number one thing I can tell you about this experience is how much better my mental state and mood is. I have less stress and anxiety as a result and feel significantly more balanced on the regular. If you haven’t done something like this I highly recommend. I feel a big shift in myself and feel like I am resetting habits. I’m not sure that I can say I will never drink again but what I can tell you is that I plan to keep up with my new habits after my hiatus. Keep reading for a link to the podcast I am referring to as well as the things I loved this month that coincided with this personal choice!

Sakara recently came out with the most delicious effervescent drink mix to inspire energy, enhance mood, improve focus, and to support mental performance. Most importantly, these are easy to throw in your bag for when you’re on the go (although I keep my studio stocked with these), they taste great, actually work and aren’t filled with any junk ingredients or sugar. Adding this in during the afternoon has been a nice add to keep things interesting. If you’re new to Sakara, be sure to use xoAPP at checkout for 20% off your first order!

Katy Perry launched this drink line after having a baby and wanting something to drink that was calming but also non alcoholic. This is so refreshing and has a nice vibe to it without the sugar and negative effects of alcohol. She has a number of flavors that come in both cans and wine bottles (perfect for a party gift!). My favorite flavor is the Golden Hour shown here. Serve it in a fancy glass to make it extra special.

Biohacking has been a thing for a while now. There are so many ways to help hack yourself into better health and wellness. During this last month of no alcohol, I have been seeking out ways to make me feel better. Restore is a chain around the country that has affordable ways to bio hack yourself into better health. I tried the red light therapy followed by the cryotherapy and it was amazing! I was in and out in 30 minutes, wasn’t all hot, sweaty or wet and then went on with my day. They have an intro package and memberships you can buy to make it affordable. It’s a franchise so they likely have a location near you! I highly recommend checking this out as a way to level up your self care.

My feet have been asking for extra attention lately. If you’ve ever taken a class or session with me, you know I am obsessed with the feet. The feet can tell the story of your whole body, they can cause injury and can also help injuries heal. I used to use toe separators but took a break but with book season upon us I decided it was time to invest in a pair and give my feet the attention they deserve. Pair them with legs up the wall and you’ve given your whole body a lot of care with very little effort.

I found Dr. Huberman and his podcast a few months ago and truthfully, I’m hooked! He’s full of great insight on all kinds of things, is incredibly smart and revered. I am actually going to see him speak in November at the Beacon Theater here in NYC. This podcast about the effects of alcohol was very eye opening for me and was the impetus for me to take a hiatus from alcohol. I highly recommend listening to this and his other episodes.

I might be late to the party on this book but I loved it. It was a beautiful and sad story of Nazi Germany. The way it is written is so interesting you really have a great perspective of what is going on. For a few years I was too tired to read being a new mom. Now reading has become one of my favorite ways to relax and settle my mind at the end of the day in lieu of a glass of wine.
